Ben and Maya seem to have everything—looks, money, a nice apartment and each other—even if their relationship shows signs of strain. Coming home from a late Saturday party, Maya is a little drunk and Ben is ready to settle in for the night. But a knock at the door and an unannounced guest change everything. An intruder wearing a gas mask bursts in and wrestles Ben to the floor. The intruder turns out to be James, Ben’s one-time best friend, whom he hasn’t seen in years. James, hyper and on edge, upsets the seeming tranquility of the couple and invites himself to stay for the evening. As the night unfolds, James cranks up the music, gets high and, ultimately, reveals old truths, secrets and wounds—taking Ben and Maya down a road they never wished to go. Director Lawrence Levine, based on his own critically acclaimed play, offers an unconventional love story where love reaches its breaking point. Levine reveals something that anyone in a relationship must ultimately face—a reflection of failures and disappointments that come with the territory of life, yet with the hope of being able to leave them behind and move forward.
